Gut signaling in mood disorders, abdominal pain-related disorders of gut brain interaction and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Our research is focused on discovering the ways in which we can alter gut signaling to treat disorders of the brain and the GI tract. We have uncovered key insights into how gut signaling, involving gut serotonin, nutrition and/or the microbiome, play roles in mood disorders (depression and anxiety), disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI; e.g., irritable bowel syndrome) and/or neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders. We are currently developing novel drugs and drug delivery systems to treat brain-gut axis conditions.
